The other benefit to reading every night is that students will beat me in the Great Reading Challenge if they do their reading homework every night!

In other news, your children have been doing so much great work! In reading we have spent a lot of time learning about different book genres. We have focused on just nine of them, two non-fiction and seven fiction.

Non-fiction

Students have learned a lot about biography and informational texts, both of which are non-fiction. Biographies are about a specific person's life while informational text teaches the reader about a spefic subject. Informational text can include books, but also includes maps, brochures, websites, menus and so on.

Fiction

The fiction genres we have discussed include historical fiction, realistic fiction, science fiction, mystery, traditional literature (tall tales, fairy tales and such), poetry and fantasy. Ask your child to teach you what they have learned. Oh, and don't worry if they are still confused about a few (especially traditional literature). We will continue to work on this all year.

We also have posted some photos from STEM class. Click here or go to the photos page under important links.
